Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a water-emulsified organic peroxide which has excellent low-temp. storage stability and safety and is useful for (co)polymerization of an ethylenically unsatd. monomer by incorporating a particular organic peroxide, a particular emulsifier, water, and an aq. alcohol in specific respective amts.
CONSTITUTION: A water-emulsified organic peroxide comprising 10 to 65wt.% at least one organic peroxide comprised of a hydroxy-t-alkyl peroxy acid ester of the formula I wherein R1 and R2 represent a C1 to C4 alkyl, R3 and R4 represent H or R1 and R is a group represented by the formula II or III wherein R6 represents a C1 to C8 alkyl, R5 represents H or R6, R7 represents R6, a C1 to C8 alkenyl, a C6 to C10 aryl(oxy), or a C1 to C6 alkoxy and R8 to R9 represent R1, with the balance consisting of water, an emulsifier, and an aq. alcohol. The emulsifier is at least one member selected from a nonionic surfactant and a protective colloid agent and incorporated in an amt. of 0.01 to 0.5 pts.wt based on 1 pt.wt. of water, and the aqueous alcohol (e.g. methyl alcohol) is incorporated in an amt. of 0.1 to 5 pts.wt. based on 1 pt.wt. of water.
