To provide a water heater that includes a channel switching means for reliably switching a channel, without increasing in size.
The water heater includes: a hot water storage tank 1 for storing hot water; a heating means 2 for heating hot water in the hot water storage tank 1; and the channel switching means 100 for sending the hot water heated by the heating means 2 to either an upper or lower part of the hot water storage tank 1. The channel switching means 100 includes: a substantially columnar on-off valve 29 that slides on an inner surface of the channel switching means 100 at a plurality of parts; a shape memory spring 30 that supports one end of the on-off valve 29; and a return spring 31 that supports the other end of the on-off valve 29. As a result, the channel switching means 100 can reliably performs a switching operation of the channel according to a temperature of the hot water heated by the heating means 2 without increasing in size, for a long period.
