PURPOSE: To provide a topcoating composition capable of improving scratch resistance by minimizing the amt. of a melamine resin used which is vulnerable to acid rain and compounding a weather-resistant fluororesin into the compsn.
CONSTITUTION: The compsn. consists mainly of a resin (A) obtd. by reacting a trifluoromonochloroolefin, a hydroxyalkyl vinyl ether, cyclohexyl vinyl ether, an alkyl vinyl ether, and a radical-polymerizable monomer containing glycidyl, a resin (B) obtd. by the ring opening and half esterification of acid anhydride groups of a polymer formed by reacting a radical-polymerizable unsatd. monomer having an acid anhydride group with a copolymerizable unsatd. monomer having no carboxyl group, and a catalyst (C) in a ratio of the epoxy equivalent of resin A to the carboxylic acid equivalent of resin B of (1:0.6)-(1:1.1). The compsn. is applied onto a base coating layer and thermally cured to give a transparent coating film having a softening point of 50-80°C.
