To provide a water retentive concrete block which exerts a strength that withstands a load of a walking level, is inexpensively produceable, excellent in water absorbing property and water retentivity, and high in heat island phenomenon suppressive effect by virtue of transpiration function, and to provide a method of producing the water retentive concrete block.
According to the method, firstly clinker ash and peat moss are subjected to dry mixing until a surface of the clinker ash is covered with the peat moss, and cement is added to the mixture and the resultant mixture is subjected to further dry mixing until a surface of the peat moss is covered with the cement. Then water having a thickener mixed therein is charged into the mixture covered with the cement, and mixed. Then the mixture is poured into a block forming mold to be hardened, and then stripped after the hardening. The water retentive concrete block thus produced is available for a concrete block for water sprinkling on a roof floor of a building by making use of the high water absorbing property and water retentivity, and therefore it contributes to prevention of temperature rise caused by the heat island phenomenon, which accordingly saves energy by virtue of reduction of load on air conditioning facilities.
