PURPOSE: A water-soluble anthraquinone type compound of formula I [R is H, (substituted) alkyl, (substituted ) phenyl, (substituted) alkoxy, (substituted ) phenoxy, (substituted) amino, chlorine, bromine, hydroxyl, or cycloalkyl, and bonded to 2'-or 3'-or 4'-position of a benzene ring;M is H or alkali metal], for example, 1,4-diamino-5-nitroanthraquinone-2, 3-disulfonic acid disodium salt.
