PURPOSE: To provide a wave front aberration correcting device capable of relaxing the precision required for the processing and adjustment of the optical elements while keeping the generation of the wave front aberration of an optical information recording and reproducing device small.
CONSTITUTION: The luminous flux passing through a composite prism 20 passes a liquid crystal element LC and is made incident on a moveable section 15. The element LC is a dot matrix type element constituted by arranging the elements, which control the phase of the incident luminous flux in a minute unit, in a two dimensional manner. The element LC is open loop controlled by a liquid crystal control circuit 50. The circuit 50 adjusts the refractive index of the element LC in an element unit by independently controlling the voltage applied to each element based on the control information stored in a memory 51. The information is a set of the data for all elements which relate the addresses of all elements of the element LC and the values of the voltages to be applied to these elements.
