Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately control a tooth movement and give no excess uncomfortableness to a patient by providing a substantially square cross-sectional orthodontic arch wire having an occlusal side wall and a gum side wall apart at the prescribed average distance and having a lip side wall and a tongue side wall apart at the specific average distance. SOLUTION: This arch wire substantially has a square shape on a cross-section, it has an occlusal side wall 22, a gum side wall 24, a lip side wall 26, and a tongue side wall 28, and they are formed to face the apex of a tooth of a patient, the gum of the patient, the cheek or lip of the patient, and the tongue of the patient. The average distance between the occlusal side wall 22 and the gum side wall 24 is within the range of 0.429-0.437mm. The average distance between the lip side wall 26 and the tongue side wall 28 is within the range of 0.429-0.447mm. This arch wire 20 is formed with a shape memory alloy having a superelastic characteristic, and it makes a transition from the matensite state to the austenite state at the critical temperature of 35 deg.C or above.
