To provide a weft tension applying apparatus for a weaving machine, with which sufficient tension is supplied to a weft in beating up of a weaving machine.
In a weaving machine with which a weft 2 is passed in the right and left direction at the front side of a reed 5 by a jet flow to carry out weft inserting and beating up is performed by the advance of the reed 5, a weft tip catcher 10 is arranged at the fixed position of the anti-weft inserting side of the reed 5. The weft tip catcher 10 is faced to the reed 5 side, opened and has a slit-like receiving opening 11 extended so as to overlap a locus in which a weft-inserted weft tip is advanced to a beating up position, a flat weft drawing part 12 which is continued to the interior of the receiving opening 11 and extended in the weft inserting direction and a wide nozzle part having its tip faced in the weft inserting direction in the weft drawing part 12. Drawing effect is produced by a flat jet jetted from the nozzle part 23 in the whole area of the weft drawing part 12 and the weft tip is retained in the weft drawing part 12 in a advancing state by the drawing effect.
