PURPOSE: To obtain a television picture with the contrast checked as a whole by arranging an optical filter to partially dim the image of the high luminance portion of the arc at the front of the image pickup surface of the camera when the weld arc is picked up by the television camera.
CONSTITUTION: The television camera 8 to pick up the weld arc 7 and the weld arc section 7 are installed to the mounting arm 2 and the relative position is fixed. At the front of the image pickup surface of the camera 8, a dimmer filter 12 partially different in transmittance is provided, an the filter 12 consists of a portion 13 with higher transmittance and another portion 14 with lower transmittacne. This checks the contrast between the neighborhood (a) fo the arc 7 which is most clearly displayed and the other portion (b), making it possible to display clearly the other portion in the groove.
