To provide a white decorative member having a hardened layer, which shows high scratch resistance, does not cause deformation of the member or unevenness on the surface even when a very strong force is applied onto the surface of the member, does not cause film peeling due to the internal stress in the film even though large unevenness is formed, is very light because of being made from titanium or titanium alloy, and has an excellent appearance with a high-quality color tone peculiar to platinum, platinum alloy or stainless steel, and to provide a manufacturing method therefor.
This white decorative member has a hardened layer 2 provided on the substrate surface 1 of the titanium or the titanium alloy so as to penetrate to some depth; has an underlayer 3 constituted by a metal or a compound consisting of a metal and one or more elements among nitrogen, oxygen and carbon provided on the surface by a dry plating method; and has a decorative coating layer 5 of the platinum or the platinum alloy further provided on the surface.
