PURPOSE: To provide a wick which can be produced at high productivity and at low cost, is suitable for the use in common, is free from fraying at the cut edges, has a suitable ability to draw up fuel, does not run to excess in exothermic performance, is kept from formation of tar at the forward end to any conspicuous degree and has a long service life, and allows itself to be ignited rapidly.
CONSTITUTION: The subject relates to a wick 1 for a combustion device in which the fuel-absorbing layer 5 is formed by alternating layers of filaments 2 formed of filaments drawn substantially in parallel with each other with layers of nonwoven fabric in which the fiber is not orientated. A web of staple 4 forms a shape-retaining layer 6 at each of the outer sides. The wick as a whole is bound into one piece by entanglement of part of the constituent fiber.
