Abstract:

PURPOSE: To make width variations on the outlet side of a finish rolling mill small and to improve the product yield by detecting a width and temp. at specified points in the longitudinal direction of a stock to be rolled on the mill inlet side, predicting the width deviation amount at the specified points based on the detected value and rolling conditions, and obtaining a tension between stands.

CONSTITUTION: A width gage 50 and a thermometer 52 installed on the inlet side of a 1st stand 11 measure a width and a temp. of a rolled stock 10 at constant intervals based on detected signals from a length measuring roll 54, respectively. The measured width and temp. are outputted to a tension arithmetic unit 60, which predictively calculates a deviation between the width prediction value and the width target at specified points in the longitudinal direction of the rolled stock 10 on the finish rolling mill outlet side and then a tension target value between stands eliminating the predicted deviation is outputted to a tension delay device 62. The device 62 outputs the tension target value for the specified points to looper controllers 31W36 to give the tension target value corresponding to the specified points when each of the specified points reach a position in the inlet side vicinity of the roll bite of the rearward stand.
