To provide a winding device of an ink ribbon in a printer having a comparatively simple structure wherein an engagement condition between a pinion and a rack is always stabilized and an impact or a vibration due to sudden increasing of a force in a direction of the rack (an advancing direction of the pinion) is not generated when a carriage changes its advancing direction.
The ink ribbon winding device comprises the flexible or elastic rack 23, the carriage 1 movable along the rack 23, the pinion 37 which is provided to the carriage 1 and is engaged with the rack 23 in the pressurized contact condition and an ink ribbon winding drive force transmission mechanisms 7, 15, 25, 27 which are provided to the carriage 1 to be coupled to the pinion 37.
