To improve productivity by attaining high winding speed while winding at a constant winding speed when winding a wound material on a core of noncircular cross-sectional shape.
The winding device includes the core 12 formed in noncircular cross-sectional shape to wind the wound material 20; a motor 14 generating rotary motion for rotating the core 12; and a rotation transmission mechanism 16 provided between the motor 14 and the core 12. The motor 14 generates constant speed rotary motion, and the rotation transmission mechanism 16 includes at least two noncircular gears meshed with each other. The speed of the rotary motion transmitted by the noncircular gears of the rotation transmission mechanism 16 changes according to the rotating angle of the core 12 to make constant the winding speed of the wound material 20 by the core 12.
