PURPOSE: To prevent the generation of repulsive ribbon and by lessening traverse speed fluctuation when a package has a small diameter, and increasing the traverse speed fluctuation when a package has a medium diameter in winding in a drawing temporary twisting machine or the like.

CONSTITUTION: The respective packages P are disposed in rolling contact with a friction roller 2 driven in rotation at the peripheral speed which agrees with the yarn speed by a driving device 3. A traverse drum 5 is disposed opposite to the friction roller 2 and feedback controlled by a controller 11. A yarn length calculating circuit 15 of the controller 11 calculates the length of a yarn according to the output of the driving device 3 and a yarn diameter calculating circuit 14 calculated a roll diameter. According to the roll diameter, a traverse speed pattern output circuit 13 outputs a designated speed pattern. When the roll diameter is small, the traverse speed fluctuation is set to be smaller, and when it is medium, the speed fluctuation is set to be larger.
