To obtain a wire drawing die having a good hardness and wear resistance and low crystal grain drawing by providing the die with a body of CVD diamond having a hole of a nearly circular cross section extending therethrough and making the main diamond crystal orientation of the body radial to the hole.

The CVD diamond wire drawing blank has the cylindrical body 10 of a regular circular shape having a circular outer peripheral surface 12 and the hole 14 which extends through the blank from one flat surface 16 to a flat surface 18 on the opposite side and is arranged at the center. The body 10 consists of the CVD diamond having the diamond crystal orientation 20 which is mainly radial to the circular hole 14. The diamond crystal orientation 20 is preferably a <110> or <111> orientation or their combination. Then, the main diamond crystal orientation is perpendicular to the direction of wire drawing and imparts the excellent hardness, the resistance to abrasion and wear and the low crystal grain drawing to the blank.
