The wire drawing method for a metal wire M includes a step of taking up the metal wire M which is reduced in diameter by passing it through a wire drawing die 4 by a cooling drum 3 having a barrel part 11 for taking up a wire material, wherein the wire drawing method further includes: a step of cooling the cooling drum 3; a step of measuring the temperature of the taking up barrel part 11 of the cooling drum 3; and a step of controlling at least one of the speed at which the metal wire M is taken up by the cooling drum 3 and the cooling degree of the cooling drum. The cooling drum 3 is cooled by supplying cooling water to the cooling drum 3. The cooling degree of the cooling drum 3 is controlled based on at least one of the temperature of the cooling water W and the supply per unit time of the cooling water W into the cooling drum 3.
