To provide a wire capable of promoting stabilization of the quality of a product obtained when using it as a brazing filler metal for joining dissimilar metal members regardless of a large difference in specific gravity between a principal material and an add-in material and a method of manufacturing the same.
A plurality of pillet unit bodies 111 are produced by casting, the pillet unit bodies 111 are laminated to produce a pillet 121, and the pillet 121 is extruded to form a wire 131. In production of the pillet unit bodies 111, a material which is at least 3 in specific gravity ratio (= the specific gravity of a principal material/the specific gravity of an add-in material) of the principal material to the add-in material is used as the add-in material. The concentration of the add-in material in the pillet unit body 111 is set within a range of 0.1-3.0 wt.%. Since lamination of the pillet unit bodies 111 is performed, the length of the pillet unit bodies 111 can be made short. In casting, solidification of a molten metal is rapidly completed and precipitation of the add-in material can be suppressed in the pillet unit body 111.
