PURPOSE: To provide wire rod covering method and the covering device, with which steady operating state can be obtained quickly.
CONSTITUTION: The device concerned is equipped with an extruder 1 for extruding covering resin, a crosshead 2, in which wire rod 3 is covered with the resin, a pressure sensor 7 and a temperature sensor 8. Further, at a resin introductory part 4, a discharge port 9 for discharging the resin outside the crosshead 2 and a switching valve 10 for flowing the resin either to the crosshead main body 6 side or to the discharge port 9 side are provided. Furthermore, a discharge pressure controlling valve 15 for controlling the pressure of the resin flowing through the discharge port 9 is provided. In addition, a valve controlling means 16, which controls the resin flow passage area flowing through the discharge port 9 so as to equalize the resin pressure in the resin introductory part 4 under the condition that the resin flows to the discharge port 9 side with the pressure of the resin under steady operation at the covering of the wire rod, is provided.
