To eliminate rotation of a cut wire rod to prevent variation in product precision by providing a cutter of a cutting device for cutting a wire rod, which is shaped so that a groove part is provided to be tapered from the knife edge part of the cutter in the direction of increasing in bore diameter in a part of the circumference in the opposite direction to the advancing direction of the cutter at the time of cutting.
When a wire rod 5 is sent through a shearing dice 3 by a material feeder, the wire rod 5 is stopped in a cutting position for a designated length by a stopper. Secondly, when a cutter 4 starts to move in the cutting direction of an arrow, fracture is caused in the wire rod 5 by the knife edge part 6 of the cutter 4 and the knife edge part 8 of the shearing dice 3 so that the wire rod 5 is cut. The cut wire rod 11 is inclined by a sagging part 9 on the cutter 4 side and clearance between the cutter 4 and a wire rod 10, and fitted in a groove part 12 which is provided in the cutter 4 and tapered from the knife edge part 6 of the cutter 4 in the direction' of increasing the bore diameter. Thus, resistance in the turning direction is produced so that when being transported to a forming process, the cut wire rod 11 can be prevented from being turned.
