To provide a work fixing device that never galls works and has a large work fixing force.

The work fixing device comprises an upper work holding member 7 and a lower work holding member 8 paired up for relative vertical movement to sandwich a tubular or cylindrical work W placed horizontally. The upper holding member 7 is formed with a down-opening work fitting groove 9 with the cross section that conforms to the upper half of the cross section of the work W, while the lower holding member 8 is formed with an up-opening work fitting groove 12 with the cross section that conforms to the lower half of the work cross section. In the circumferential wall of at least either of the upper and lower fitting grooves 9 and 12, one or more lines of recess 10, 13 are cut along the groove 9, 12. The lines of recess 10 and 13 are each fitted with a work-antiskid elastic material 11, 14 adapted to partly protrude from the line of recess 10, 13 when the upper and lower holding members 7 and 8 do not sandwich work W there between.
