In the writing utensil or applicator with a display part, an organic EL (electroluminescence), an inorganic EL and a light emitting diode arranged on the plane, all of which have an almost planar structure and high pliability, are used as a luminescent element, and a crystal liquid display of a reflective crystal liquid or a semi-transmissible liquid crystal type, a digital mirror microdevice, an electrophoretic display, a twist ball display, a storage-type liquid crystal display, a powder transfer display, an electrochromic display, a photochromic display, a magnetophoretic display and the like, are used as a reflective display part. Characters or figures on the surface of a barrel become luminescent or change by installing a power supply, a boosting circuit and a switch inside/outside the barrel in addition to the above components.
