An automatic winder includes a bobbin set part, a cradle 23, a contact roller 29, a traverse guide 28, and yarn handling plates 75, 76. The bobbin set part supplies a yarn of a yarn supply bobbin. The cradle 23 rotatably holds a package 30 for winding a yarn 20 supplied from the bobbin set part. The contact roller 29 is rotated while being in contact with the package 30. The traverse guide 28 is provided independently from the contact roller 29. The traverse guide 28 engages the yarn 20 wound around the package 30 to traverse the yarn 20. The yarn handling plates 75, 76 bring the yarn 20 closer to the central side in the winding width direction of the package 30 by being in contact with the yarn 20 applied with tension, in a stage before the traverse guide 28 engages the yarn 20.
