Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain zinc alloy particles for alkaline battery that is suppressed of hydrogen gas generation and excellent in discharge characteristics by controlling particle shape by a means of jet gas and a control method other than the oxygen concentration control in the device atmosphere in the manufacture of zinc particles by atomization method. SOLUTION: A molten metal of zinc alloy containing 0.0001-0.5 wt.% of one or more of elements out of bismuth, indium, aluminum and magnesium is flown down, and, by keeping the oxygen concentration in the device atmosphere at 0.1% or less and then by jetting by high pressure a gas of an oxygen concentration of 0.1% or less into this molten metal flow, the molten metal is dispersed into micro molten drops. And by crashing these micro molten drops into the crash plate such as a metal plate, atomized powder comprising mixed flat shape particles and spherical particles is obtained. The flat shape particles have a thickness of 50 μm or less and, by making the ratio of flat shape particles against the total particles 20% or more, have an excellent discharge characteristics in the use of the battery and contain little oxygen, thereby the generation of hydrogen is suppressed.
