Title:
ZINC POWDER FOR BATTERY
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS6164071
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To produce a battery which has a long life and in which generation of hydrogen gas is suppressed during storage by using zinc particles the surfaces of which are coated with water-soluble organic macromolecular films.

CONSTITUTION: The surface of zinc particles are coated with water-soluble organic macromolecular films with thickness of 10∼1,000. Natural macromolecular compounds such as starch and gelatin, semisynthetic macromolecular compounds such as viscose and methylcellulose and synthetic macromolecular compounds such as polyvinyl alcohol has be used as the water- soluble organic macromolecular compound. These water-soluble macromolecular films covering the zinc particles prevent their surface from directly touching air, thereby maintaining the surfaces of the zinc particles in good condition. Furthermore, these films are easily dissolved into a caustic alkali solution during manufacture of the negative mixture and therefore does not influence subsequent function of the electrode.
