Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To precisely diagnose abnormality of a lock pin by precisely detecting variation width of a VTC phase due to a torque of a cam shaft during controlling a lock.SOLUTION: An engine 11 comprises: a first output part 19 for outputting first angle signals together with rotation of a valve driving shaft 16; a second output part 20 for outputting second angle signals together with rotation of an output shaft 12; and a controlling phase calculation part 21a for calculating a controlling phase Ar controlled by a target phase on the basis of the first and second angle signals. An abnormality diagnosis device comprises: a diagnosing phase calculation part 21b for calculating a diagnosing phase Ad whose variation rate is larger than that of the controlling phase Ar on the basis of the first and second angle signals; and an abnormality detection part 21c for detecting such abnormality that a first pin is not engaged with a first limiting groove or a second pin is not engaged with a second limiting groove on the basis of the variation of the diagnosing phase Ad during a lock control for engaging the first pin and the first limiting groove and engaging the second pin and the second limiting groove.
