PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a negative electrode active material for a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery, with which a negative electrode of a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery that has low volume resistance and lower irreversible capacity can be manufactured.SOLUTION: A negative electrode active material for a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery is represented by an elemental composition formula: Met-Si-O-C-H (where, Metrepresents one of alkali earth metal elements or a mixture thereof.), and contains silicate comprising a silicon based inorganic compound and the alkali earth metal.
