PURPOSE: To provide a pattern recognizing device capable of quickly and highly accurately judging identity between an image to be inspected and a reference image.
CONSTITUTION: Signals (an inspected signal and a reference signal) in respective picture elements of art inspected image and a reference image are inputted to a storage area in an image rotating part 101. The reference signal in each frame is rotated and transformed by the image rotating part 101 and projected to art image display device 103. Respective images are Fourier transformed twice through lenses 105, 106 and formed on the focal face 118 of the lens 106. The formed images are detected by a photodetector 115 and the angles of the detected image and the reference image are matched based upon the detected intensity signal and template matching is executed to judge identity between the two images.
