PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pump system capable of improving fuel economy in a case of driving an oil pump with power from a driving ring during inertia travel control, and a control method of a pump system.SOLUTION: A pump system 200 is provided in a vehicle 1 including a variator 8, and includes: a pump 5; a power transmission device 150 including a first power transmission device 110 and a second power transmission device 120, and configured to perform power transmission from a drive wheel 11 to the pump 5 by the second power transmission device 120 during sailing stop control as inertia travel control; and a controller 12 configured to a transmission rate of the variator 8 so that during the sailing stop control, a rotational speed Npri is made smaller than a first predetermined rotational speed Npri1.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
