To improve fuel consumption of a vehicle by using regenerative braking of a motor whenever possible while securing swiftness of engine starting when there is an engine starting demand during a coasting state of the vehicle.
The drive mechanism is provided with a motor, a first clutch carrying out transmission or interruption of driving force between the motor and an engine, a second clutch carrying out transmission or interruption of driving power of one or both of the motor and the engine to a wheel side, and a controller carrying out operation control of the clutches. In the controller, when the engine is in a stopped state, the vehicle is in the coasting state, and at least a motor side rotational frequency of the first clutch is the same or lower as a predetermined standby rotational frequency set at an engine starting possible rotational frequency or higher, control is carried out to provide a standby state wherein the second clutch is disengaged and the first clutch is engaged.
