Abstract:

To provide an env gene of a new human endogenous retrovirus related to onset of IgA nephropathy.

An HC2env gene (env gene of the human endogenous retrovirus HC2) is disclosed. One or several bases therein may be deleted, substituted or added. The onset of the IgA nephropathy is a mechanism in which the HC2env gene is expressed to produce an HC2ENV protein that is an expression product thereof. When a human has an antibody reactive with the HC2ENV protein by an autoimmune mechanism, an immunoreactive conjugate of the antibody deposits in a glomerular mesangium region to cause chronic inflammatory reactions.
