Abstract:
To appropriately discard deteriorated developer to improve image quality.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus has: an image carrier; an electrifying member; a developer carrier; and a cleaning and discard processing unit Pr2 that controls to decrease an electrification voltage applied to the electrifying member, and controls a developing voltage applied to the developer carrier to change a standard developing voltage during printing to one of a first developing voltage having a polarity opposite to a polarity of developer and a second developing voltage having the same polarity as and a larger absolute value than the polarity of the developer. The image forming apparatus can discard a developer attached to the electrifying member by attaching the same to the image carrier, and can discard a deteriorated developer on the developer carrier by attaching the same to the image carrier. Simultaneous execution of a cleaning operation and a developer discarding operation prevents unnecessary suspension of printing and rotation of the image carrier and developer carrier and the like.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
