Abstract:
To provide an internal combustion engine that performs stable lean burning.SOLUTION: An engine 1 is an internal combustion engine that comprises a main combustion chamber 11 and a sub-combustion chamber 25 linked to the main combustion chamber 11, and fires an air-fuel mixture in the main combustion chamber 11 with a flame generated by igniting hydrogen-containing gas in the sub-combustion chamber 25. The internal combustion engine comprises an intake valve 17 which opens and closes an intake port 13 for supplying air to the main combustion chamber 11, a gas supply part 35 which supplies the hydrogen-containing gas to the sub-combustion chamber 25, and a gas supply valve 39 which opens and closes a gas supply path 37 for the hydrogen-containing gas from the gas supply part 35 to the sub-combustion chamber 25, one cycle including a period in which the timing when the gas supply valve 39 has a maximum opening is earlier than the timing when the intake valve 17 has a maximum opening and the opening of the gas supply valve 39 is larger than that of the intake valve 17.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
