Abstract:
To provide a liquid crystal display device in which the yellow discoloration when viewed from an oblique direction can be suppressed.SOLUTION: A liquid crystal display device includes, in the order from an observation surface side to a back surface side, a first polarizer with a first transmission axis, a liquid crystal panel, a second polarizer with a second transmission axis, a biaxial retardation plate with a slow axis parallel to the second transmission axis, a third polarizer with a third transmission axis parallel to the second transmission axis, and a backlight. Using a polar angle, which defines the direction parallel to the normal line of the liquid crystal panel as 0°, and the orientation, which defines the direction parallel to the slow axis of the biaxial retardation plate as 0°, the direction with a polar angle of 0° is defined as a front direction, and the direction with a polar angle of 60° and with an orientation of 45° is defined as an oblique direction; in this case, a difference ΔYI2 between a yellow discoloration degree YI2' in the oblique direction and a yellow discoloration degree YI2 in the front direction in a back surface polarizer part including the second polarizer, the biaxial retardation plate, and the third polarizer satisfies the following expression (1): ΔYI2=YI2'-YI2<0 (1)SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
