A locking device, in particular a lock cylinder, comprises a basic body which has a core receptacle; a cylinder core which is accommodated in the core receptacle of the basic body so as to be rotatable about an axis of rotation and which has a keyway for a key assigned to the locking device; and a plurality of tumblers which project partially into the keyway and are designed to block the cylinder core in a normal position of the cylinder core against a rotation from the normal position if they are not arranged, in particular by the assigned key, in a configuration in which they free the cylinder core. The cylinder core has a movably mounted blocking element which is prestressed radially outwards with respect to the axis of rotation and which is designed to be held in a neutral position by the assigned key counter to the prestress. On an inner lateral surface of the core receptacle there is formed a stop portion which defines a limit position of the cylinder core that is different from the normal position and up to which the cylinder core, in the freeing configuration of the tumblers, is freely rotatable starting from the normal position, and in which the blocking element, if it is not situated in the neutral position, butts against the stop portion in order to block a rotation of the cylinder core over and beyond the limit position.
