Abstract:
To provide a magnetic recording medium that is thin in overall thickness with running stability excellent.SOLUTION: A tape-shape magnetic recording medium 10 includes: a magnetic layer 13; a ground layer 12; a base layer 11; and a back layer 14. Kurtosis of a surface on a magnetic layer side is equal to or more than 3.0, kurtosis of a surface on a back layer side is equal to or more than 2.0, and arithmetic mean roughness Ra of a surface on the magnetic layer side is equal to or less than 2.5nm. The base layer includes polyester as a main component, and an average thickness tT of the magnetic recording medium is equal to or less than 5.6 μm. The magnetic recording medium includes a lubricant. The lubricant contains a fatty acid, and a fatty acid ester, and a mass ratio of the fatty acid and fatty acid ester to be extracted by hexane is the fatty acid/fatty acid ester≤0.6. The magnetic recording medium has a pore, and an average diameter of the pore is equal to or more than 6nm and equal to or less than 11nm when removing the lubricant from the magnetic recording medium and measuring the magnetic recording medium in a dried condition.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
