PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper sheet stacking mechanism and a paper sheet handling apparatus that can stack paper sheets on a stacking unit in an aligned state by securely receiving a paper sheet in a gap between vanes, where a front end edge of the paper sheet is guided by a guide part to enter a one-gap following gap between vanes without being apart from a vane wheel even when the front end edge of the paper sheet rides outside the front end edge of the vane while the paper sheet enters the gap between adjacent vanes in the vane wheel.SOLUTION: A paper sheet stacking mechanism 50 includes a vane wheel 52 for transporting paper sheets one by one to a stacking unit 30, and a guide part 70. The vane wheel includes a base 52a rotatable about a shaft 53, and a plurality of vanes 52b outwardly extending from the outer periphery of the base 52a in a rotational direction opposite to the rotational direction of the base 52a. The vane wheel 52 is configured to repeatedly transport the paper sheet received in the gap between the vanes 52b to the stacking unit 30.
