PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper sheet processing device and a paper sheet processing method which improves an operation rate of the device by performing front/back inversion processing of a paper sheet by means of a front/back inversion part of switchback type and avoiding abnormal stop of the device in which paper moneys during conveyance get into linked state and reduces a load related to device operation of an operator.SOLUTION: A currency depositing/dispensing machine 100 provided with a front/back inversion part 118 of switchback type conveys paper moneys from an accumulation part of a conveyance origin, discriminates front/back of the paper moneys with a discrimination part 116, judges the necessity of front/back inversion, when it is judged that front/back inversion is not necessary, conveys the paper moneys to the accumulation part without causing the paper money to pass through the front/back inversion part, and when it is judged that the front/back inversion is necessary and the paper moneys which have been judged such that the front/back inversion is necessary do not continue or when, although the paper moneys which have been judged such that the front/back inversion thereof is necessary continue, an interval of the paper moneys is a prescribed value or more, causes the paper moneys to pass through the front/back inversion part and conveys the paper moneys to the accumulation part, and when the paper moneys which have been judged such that the front/back inversion thereof is necessary continue and the interval of the paper moneys is less than the prescribed value, accumulates the paper moneys to a middle accumulation part different from either conveyance origin or conveyance destination once without causing the paper moneys to pass through the front/back inversion part and conveys the currency accumulated on the middle accumulation part again to an accumulation part of the conveyance destination.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
