Abstract:
PURPOSE: To mix safely and effectively by carrying out the mixing of an easily flammable powder such as red phosphorus with a hot melt by feeding the materials to a mixing zone through a transition zone under positive-pressure atmosphere of an inactive gas and cooling condition.
CONSTITUTION: A mixer 10 for mixing an easily flammable powder such as red phosphorus in a hot fluid such as thermoextrudable polymer as a formulation extruder comprises a twin-screw 50, a polymer inlet 20 at the upstream end, a vent system 23 for easily flammable powder at the downstream end, and a perforated die 40 at the most downstream end. A powder feeder including a transition chamber 29 with a water jacket is provided in the side direction of the mixer 10. An easily flammable powder is introduced into the transition chamber 29 from a gastight powder distributor 33 through a screw conveyor 30. The powder is fed into the mixer 10 through a powder inlet 21 by a screw conveyor 25 under cooling and CO2 gas supply, and is mixed into a polymer.
