Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polybenzimidazole (PBI) carbon fiber which can be produced efficiently without infusiblization processing and has excellent elastic modulus and strength.SOLUTION: The PBI carbon fiber is a continuous fiber which has a carbon fiber structure obtained by heating a precursor fiber containing PBI having a structure represented by a specified formula as a structural unit; and has a tensile elastic modulus of 100 GPa or over, a tensile strength of 0.8 GPa or over, and a fiber diameter of 8 μm of over.SELECTED DRAWING: None
