Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal aligning agent for forming an optical alignment film having good sensitivity in chemical changes by irradiation with light, excellent aligning properties of liquid crystal molecules and high light transmittance while maintaining electric characteristics commonly required for a liquid crystal alignment film such as a high voltage retention rate, a small amount of ions and a little residual charge, and to provide an optical alignment film using the liquid crystal aligning agent and a liquid crystal display element using the optical alignment film.SOLUTION: There is used an optical alignment film formed of a liquid crystal aligning agent containing a polyamic acid, which is obtained by reacting a cyclobutane tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride or a mixture of a tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride including a cyclobutane tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride with a specific aromatic diamine having alkyl chain with 4 or more carbon atoms in the molecule or a derivative thereof, for liquid crystal display element.
