PURPOSE: To provide the subject asymmectric bisazo compound easy to produce and useful as a charge-producing substance or a photoconductive substance in a photosensitive layer of an electrophotographic photoreceptor.
CONSTITUTION: The objective asymmetric bisazo compound of formula VIII can be obtained by reacting a diazonium salt compound of formula I (X is an anionic functional group, preferably tetrafluoroborate, chloride sulfate, etc.) with couplers of formula II or III through two stages in order or by isolating a diazonium salt compound of formula IV (A is formula V or VI) or formula VII synthesized in the first step coupling reaction and subsequently further reacting a coupler corresponding to each of the isolated compounds therewith. The obtained asymmetric bisazo compound is useful as a charge-producing pigment used in a charge-producing layer of an electrophotographic photoreceptor, especially a laminate type photoreceptor.
