Abstract:

Among the compounds represented by the general formula (1) [wherein n is an integer of 7 to 13], 11-methyl-13-tridecanolide (n=8), 12-methyl-14-tetradeca- nolide (n=9), and 13-methyl-15-pentadecanolide (n=10) are novel compounds which have not been reported in prior art and the evaluation of the compounds for fragrance characteristics reveals that the compounds are macrocyclic lactone musks having not only strong and persistent fragrance of musk but also fragrance characteristics of nitro musks. Perfume compositions and fragrance preparations containing at least one of the compounds have distinctive smell characteristics. The invention also provides a novel process for the production of compounds represented by the general formula (1).
