Abstract:
An acetic acid production method is provided which can greatly improve the service life of a silver-substituted ion exchange resin (IER) for removing organic iodine compounds in the acetic acid. In this acetic acid production method, in the methanol carbonylation process, an acetic acid distillation step involves at least one distillation step in which distillation of an acidic acid flow is performed under conditions in which the tower bottom temperature of the distillation tower is less than 175°C; the material of the distillation tower in the said distillation step is a nickel-based alloy or zirconium; and the metal ion concentration in the charge solution in the distillation tower during said distillation step is less than 10,000 ppb by mass of iron ions, less than 5000 ppb by mass of chrome ions, less than 3000 ppb by mass of nickel ions, and less than 2000 ppb by mass of molybdenum ions.
