Abstract:
An adsorbent for aromatic hydroxy compounds which comprises either particles of a composite metal oxide solid solution represented by the following formula (1) (Mg¿y1?M?2+¿¿y2?)¿1-x?Al¿x?O¿1+0.5x?, or particles of a hydrotalcite-like composite metal hydroxide represented by the following formula (2) (Mg¿y1?M?2+¿y2?)¿1-z?Al¿z?(OH)¿2+a?(A?n-¿)¿b?.mH¿2?O; and a method of removing an aromatic hydroxy compound from a solvent with the adsorbent. With the adsorbent, an aromatic hydroxy compound contained in an aqueous or water-miscible solvent or in an organic solvent can be efficiently removed from the solvent by adsorption.
