An alkaline dry battery that comprises a positive electrode, a negative electrode, a separator that is arranged between the positive electrode and the negative electrode, and an electrolyte, the negative electrode including: a negative electrode active material that includes zinc; a compound A that has a P-O bond; and terephthalic acid. The molar ratio of compound A to the terephthalic acid is 0.025–2.5.
