Title:
ANTENNA SYSTEM
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/1995/006963
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
Disclosed is a multi-positional antenna system for receiving signals from geostationary satellites. In order to achieve a many-fold increase in the number (up to forty) of geostationary satellites which can be positioned simultaneously with one fixed reflector antenna, an element whose profile is congruent with the spherical surface is used to mount a number of radiating units equal to the number of geostationary satellites to be positioned. For convenient and accurate positioning, the radiating units are designed to telescope and are flexible along part of their lengths. They are mounted on their supports in such a way that they can be aligned and fixed on a segment concentric with the reflector. To eliminate the need for more than one low-noise converter unit, the outputs of the radiating units are fed into a superhigh frequency signal collector. The alignments are changed by commutation of the superhigh frequency switches which feed into the radiating units. The contour of the spherical reflector is determined by the maximum angular separation between satellites (up to 120) and the optimal diameter of the aperture used.
