Abstract:
An arrangement for use in detecting counterfeit items which carry code markings, comprises a unit incorporating reading means for reading such a code marking and producing a characteristic electrical signal corresponding to such code markings read. The unit is designed to interface with a computer, for example, a PC, running software which enables processing of the said electric signals and consequent verification of the authenticity of said code marking. The reading means may take the shape of a pen, or may be in the form of some other hand-held device, and may, for example, be incorporated in a computer mouse.
