Abstract:
Provided are: an anti-HTLV-1 antibody for preventing the onset of, or treating, diseases caused by HTLV-1 in a person infected by HTLV-1, or preventing infection in a person not infected by HTLV-1; and a drug containing the antibody as an active ingredient. An antibody having the following properties (i)-(vi): (i) the antibody is a monoclonal antibody that recognizes and binds to an envelope protein gp46 of HTLV-1; (ii) the antibody recognizes an epitope comprising an amino acid sequence of amino acid sequence nos. 192-196 of the envelope protein gp46 of HTLV-1 represented by SEQ ID NO: 61; (iii) the binding dissociation constant (KD) with respect to HTLV-1 gp46 peptide nos. 180-204 is 50 nM or less; and (iv) the affinity with respect to six types of gp46 partial peptides in which amino acid sequence nos. 191-196 of the envelope protein gp46 of HTLV-1 represented by SEQ ID NO: 61 are substituted, for each residue respectively, with Ala is equivalent to that with respect to an unsubstituted gp46 partial peptide.
