Abstract:
Provided is an antibacterial fiber in which the content of antibacterial glass in the core part is made to be less than the content of antibacterial glass in the sheath part, thereby making it possible for the added amount of antibacterial glass to be small, and further, for the fiber to exhibit superior antibacterial properties. Also provided is an efficient method for manufacturing such an antibacterial fiber. The antibacterial fiber includes a thermoplastic resin and antibacterial glass as added components, the average diameter of the antibacterial fiber is set to be a value within a range of 1-50 μm, and the antibacterial fiber comprises a core part and a sheath part. When the content of the antibacterial glass in the core part with respect to the total amount of the antibacterial fiber is defined as Q1 (weight %), and the content of the antibacterial glass in the sheath part with respect to the total amount of the antibacterial fiber is defined as Q2 (weight %), Q1 and Q2 satisfy relational expression (1): Q1
